My name is Angus King III, and I am running for Governor of Maine.

I’m a dad, an outdoorsman, a builder, a renewable energy leader, and a Mainer committed to making things better for hardworking families.

I was born and raised in Maine. As a kid, I worked as a lobsterman, a carpenter, and a cook.

Today, I’m so glad my own kids have grown up right here in the Pine Tree State. But like you, I worry whether they will be able to get good jobs and build their lives in Maine. And I know many families are feeling like they’re falling behind, with fewer opportunities tomorrow than they had yesterday.

But I’m an optimist — and “impossible” is not a word I have ever accepted. That’s how I built a renewable energy company that now turns cow manure into energy, heating thousands of homes and businesses here without adding costs for Mainers. That’s how I built solar and wind projects that churn out hundreds of megawatts of clean energy. And that’s how I built affordable housing for thousands of people across the country.

My career hasn’t been in Augusta politics. I’ve been building things that solve big problems and help people and our state. And right now, so many of the things we care about are at risk. It’s time to try something different and build something better. That’s why I’m running for Governor. To build a better Maine.

Unlike what we’re seeing in Washington today, I don’t believe that simply breaking things delivers the best results. Instead, you do it by bringing people together in common cause, with a focus on getting things done. I believe Mainers are full of good ideas to create more opportunities and a better life for our kids, and I’m excited to work with anyone who shares that goal.

I’m running for Governor to help make that happen. Mainers deserve a leader who understands how to grow our economy, help businesses create good jobs, and bring people together and find solutions.

It won’t be easy or happen overnight. But I promise you this: I will always fight for what’s right for the people of Maine, no matter who tries to stand in the way. In Maine. Washington. Or anywhere else.
