I have to share some personal news that took me by surprise. But before I tell you this wild tale, I’d like to humbly ask you to support my campaign for Senate. [ [link removed] ]

In 2024, a genealogy website notified me of a family connection I never knew existed: It turns out that Teddy Roosevelt is my cousin.

To be specific, TR is my 6th cousin, four times removed, on my mother’s side. We share common ancestors in my 9th great-grandfather, Theiss Matthias Dohrs, and my 9th great-grandmother, Agnes Neesgen op den Graff.

I’ve always admired our 26th President. Long before his face was carved into Mount Rushmore, he was a man who found his soul in the Badlands of the Dakota Territory, shuttling between his home in New York and his ranch. He lived the life of a strenuous, honest laborer—the same life many South Dakotans live today.

But more than the family tree, I am inspired by the Square Deal he brought to this country.

TR was a trustbuster who wasn't afraid to take on the monopolies and giant corporations that took advantage of workers and harmed the public interest. He was a champion of fairness for the average citizen. And, as the "father of the modern American conservation movement," he placed 230 million acres under federal protection. The very legacy I served as a Park Ranger at the Wind Cave National Park he established in 1903.

These are the exact same structural reforms I am striving to bring to the U.S. Senate.

Today, the bad trusts aren't just corporations; they are the corporate PACs and the D.C. lobbyists that have bought and paid for career politicians like Mike Rounds. We need to break the power of money by banning Congressional stock trading, protecting our land and water, and restoring fairness for working people.

I am running as an Independent because, like my revered cousin the “Bull Moose,” I believe our government belongs to the people, not the special interests.
