Voted Hell NO on DHS bill that Would Give Billions to Trump's ICE and CBP

I voted against the DHS spending bill because I won't give Trump's ICE one more cent. This bill pours billions into an anti-immigrant agenda that's terrorizing communities and killing innocent people. We just saw a 5-year-old child in Minneapolis used as BAIT to arrest his own father.

This is personal to me. I’m the son of two Mexican immigrants who came to this country to create a better life for me and my siblings. Today, people who look like me are being taken from their homes, ripped off the streets, and separated from their families. I was scared to let my mother fly home from Mexico out of fear that she would be targeted.

I warned this would happen. When this started in Los Angeles six months ago, I called out the Trump Administration for targeting people based on how they look. I'll never help Trump use ICE and CBP as his own national police force.

Condemned Trump’s Threats to U.S. Alliance with Greenland and NATO

Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to seize Greenland, a close U.S. ally and NATO member. By threatening to invade our allies, Trump is isolating the United States and dismantling the world order that has kept global stability since the end of World War II. Our NATO allies have always stood with us. But now the same countries who once fought shoulder to shoulder with us now fear us more than Russia.

I introduced the Greenland Sovereignty Protection Act to prohibit Trump from acquiring, purchasing, or invading Greenland, because doing so would destroy an alliance that helps maintain peace and security around the world.

Trump’s reckless actions are putting our economy, our national security, and the global order at risk. We cannot allow him to threaten our allies, turn our backs on NATO, and plunge the world into chaos.

Secured Progressive Caucus Endorsement for My Make Housing Affordable & Defend Democracy Act

I joined Congressional Progressive Caucus Deputy Chair, Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, to call out the Trump administration’s latest immigration operations in her state and across the country.

Images of Renee Good’s car, a child being ripped away from their family, and an unclothed, elderly Hmong man being pulled from his own home in Minnesota show what happens when a government turns on its people. Even then, images can never fully capture the true level of brutality and violence.

Last summer, I voted against Republicans' so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” because it handed Trump a $175 billion slush fund to supercharge ICE and CBP and create his own national police force. Now, they are only becoming more aggressive and dangerous.

That’s why the Congressional Progressive Caucus has endorsed my Make Housing Affordable and Defend Democracy Act, which would stop Trump’s expansion of ICE and redirect that $175 billion toward making housing affordable for hardworking families.
