I wanted to make sure you saw this email from our executive director,
Mara. Last week, the Trump administration unleashed yet another
inhumane attack on trans people, announcing their intention to remove
protections from the Equal Access Rule that would keep trans people
from losing their housing access.

There are now less than 60 days to make our voices heard and let HUD
know this change would leave trans people subject to cruel
discrimination when they are most vulnerable. There isn't much
time, and we need to make sure we are ready for anything this
administration throws our way. Can you help us fight against
discrimination by making a $25 donation today?

Donald Trump and his extremist cronies at HUD have taken aim against
trans people in the middle of a public health crisis. As we approach
the end of the eviction and mortgage moratoriums in our country during
the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the Trump administration wants to
remove protections for trans people that would leave them exposed to
unsafe and unfair conditions. But, we won't let that happen.

With your help, we will make sure Trump and HUD know that this rule
change will never see the light of day. Will you contribute $25
dollars, or whatever you can today, to fuel this fight?

We know that #HousingSavesLives, and we will make sure that the Trump
administration hears it loud and clear that we will not stand for this
kind of blatant discrimination.

As always, thank you for your support. We couldn't do our work
without your generosity.

Sincerely,
Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen

In an almost unbelievable move during a global public health crisis,
the Trump administration is yet again setting its sights on gutting
protections for our trans siblings. This time, they are looking to
remove critical protections meant to ensure the safety of any trans
person in need of Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD)
funded programs - especially homeless shelters.

Share your comment to fight back against this cruel proposal. Tell the
Trump administration that #HousingSavesLives.

HUD exists to "build inclusive and sustainable communities free
from discrimination," however the proposed roll-back would open
the door to taxpayer-funded discrimination against the people in our
communities who are at the greatest risk of violence and
discrimination. The Equal Access Rule's protections against
discrimination are critical to ensure safe access to shelter for
transgender people experiencing homelessness, survivors of violence,
and fleeing disasters.

Currently, homeless shelters are expressly directed to accept trans
people based on their authentic gender, but like so many other
protections for our community, Trump and his cronies are poised to
roll that back and instead encourage shelters to reject people simply
because of who they are.

This proposed roll-back would encourage widespread discrimination when
trans people need help the most, when facing losing their housing. The
current regulations provide safety in HUD-funded programs, and
Trump's proposed rule change would only leave trans people less
safe and more at risk, especially during a global health crisis.

We at NCTE will do everything we can to make sure these harmful
changes don't go into effect, but like with so much, we need
your help to make that a reality. Starting today, there is a 60 day
comment period where members of the public can share why this rule
would be a huge mistake because #HousingSavesLives.

We all pay the price when it comes to government-sanctioned
discrimination. Will you stand with us and let the administration know
you reject their attempts to discriminate?

Share your comments and help us create a wave of opposition to reject
this dangerous proposal.

Together, we can fight this attack on trans people.
