Earlier today, Vice President JD Vance announced a new expansion of the odious Global Gag Rule. He said it was the administration’s job to “promote families” and bragged about “turning of the tap for NGOs whose sole purpose is to dissuade people from having kids.”
While many details remain murky (likely intentionally), it’s clear that the new expansion seeks to weaponize US foreign assistance in furtherance of JD Vance’s creepy obsession with other people’s child-bearing choices.
After spending the past year destroying global health programs around the world with their foreign aid “freeze,” this expanded Gag Rule—which now applies to all non-military US foreign aid spending—will do even more damage to people around the world who desperately need access to family planning and other lifesaving health care.
We will not stand by quietly while the Trump Administration continues its cruel and needless destruction of reproductive health and rights around the world.
