FBI agent resigns over investigation into shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, sources say
An FBI agent has resigned over the investigation into the fatal ICE shooting of Renee Good after Trump administration officials focused the probe more on the actions of Good and her partner and less on the officer who shot her, according to two people familiar with the decision. The agent, who was a supervisor in the Minneapolis field office, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday night.

Virginia voters can stop Trump’s election rigging — and level the playing field

Virginians For Fair Elections Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans are trying to rig the 2026 midterms by pressuring red states to redraw congressional maps behind closed doors — cutting voters out of the process and stacking the deck before a single ballot is cast. Virginia has a chance to do something different. A proposed, temporary constitutional amendment would give voters — not politicians — the final say. Under the amendment, proposed congressional maps would be made public, and Virginians would be able to review them and vote on them before any maps take effect. Now, Virginians for Fair Elections is launching a statewide effort to make sure voters know what’s at stake — and to ensure Virginia leads by protecting fair representation instead of following Trump’s rigged playbook. Will you chip in today to help level the playing field and defend our democracy?

Thousands rally against ICE in Minneapolis in below-zero temperatures
Thousands of people rallied in subzero temperatures in a march against the federal government’s immigration crackdown taking place in the city. Organizers gave hand-warmers to demonstrators as they shouted "ICE out," waved American flags and carried signs calling for the arrest of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who fatally shot Renee Nicole Good on Jan. 7. “Today is the coldest day of the entire year in Minnesota, and we have the biggest protest to date happening,” said Amal Ahmed, 30, as she and others gathered downtown and marched toward the Target Center arena Friday afternoon. Temperatures in Minneapolis were and will remain below zero degrees Fahrenheit on Friday, with a high of minus 9, a low of minus 17 and wind chill values as low as minus 35, according to the National Weather Service.

Monster winter storm threatens half of US with at least 16 states declaring emergencies
The dangerous monster storm threatening half of the US was on Friday bearing down, with 16 states and Washington DC already declaring emergencies and areas typically unused to prolonged Arctic temperatures bracing for power failures and supply shortages. At least 230 million people are likely to be affected by the huge winter weather system as it forms in parts of the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains and surges across southern and midwestern areas from Friday, blowing up the east coast on Saturday and as far north as Maine by Sunday.

Police arrest huge group of faith leaders in Minneapolis ICE protest

Dozens of faith leaders were arrested during a massive peaceful protest Friday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. A group of clergy members were among thousands who gathered at the airport to urge airlines working with ICE to stand with them against the Trump administration’s sweeping deportation operation in the Twin Cities. One video shared to X by Workday Magazine’s Sarah Lazare showed a line of clergy members assembled in the road outside of Terminal 1 departures, singing. “Before this campaign fails, we’ll all go down to jail, everybody’s got a right to live,” the clergy members sang. Another video showed the large crowd of protesters—including striking workers and union members—cheering: “Our streets!”

Trump says US "armada" heading toward Iran
President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States has an "armada" heading toward Iran but hoped he would not have to use it, as he renewed warnings to Tehran against killing protesters or restarting its nuclear program. U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, say the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and several guided-missile destroyers will arrive in the Middle East in the coming days. "We have a lot of ships going that direction, just in case …I'd rather not see anything happen, but we're watching them very closely," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on his way back to the United States after speaking to world leaders in Davos, Switzerland.
