Dear John,
Virginia is expecting massive amounts of snowfall and a wintry mix beginning Saturday evening and continuing through the early hours of Monday morning. As you prepare for this winter storm, the information below might be helpful.
Roadways:
Virginians are urged to stay off the roads beginning at 6:00 pm this Saturday – if you don’t need to drive, please stay home.
VDOT is responsible for snow removal from interstates and major transportation routes; you can see a list of VDOT roads in Arlington here. You can track state plows using this website.
Arlington County crews are responsible for clearing local and neighborhood roads. To track Arlington plow activity in your area, please click here. If you want to report an issue to Arlington County related to snow accumulation, please click here — the links will become live once the storm starts.
Electric Power:
If you lose power during the storm and want to report or receive updates on Dominion Power crew activity, you will find a great deal of information here. There are ways to report your outage and track your restoration time with Dominion Energy: 1) the Dominion Energy website; or 2) call 866-DOM-HELP (866-366-4357).
Community Supports:
If you are aware of any unhoused person in need of assistance during the storm, please contact the Arlington Hypothermia Shelter or contact the Arlington Community Assistance Bureau at (703) 228-1010, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
I wish all of you a safe weekend.
