THE SITUATION: There are just 5 weeks left in this race, and mail-in voting is already underway. We need to ramp up our organizing efforts to reach voters and make sure they hear Ed’s message.
THE NUMBERS: Our FEC fundraising reports for last quarter recently went public — showing that we were neck and neck on fundraising. But while our opponent did it with lots and lots of max out checks, we matched him because lots and lots of grassroots supporters chipped in what they could afford to power this campaign.
THE COMPLICATION: Joe Kennedy outspent us big time — including $2.4 million on an ad buy to drown out Ed’s message. Now that he’s seen our grassroots strength match his max-out machine, he’s going to sound the alarm with his big-money donor network to try to stop our movement.
THE PLAN: We need to keep our foot on the gas and work harder than ever in this final stretch. We don’t have to outspend Joe Kennedy, but we have to keep it close. And the only way we can do that is if we all do our part.
Together, we’ve sent a powerful message about our grassroots enthusiasm. The media told us that we could not beat a Kennedy in Massachusetts — calling it “potentially insurmountable.”
Let’s finish strong and make sure we re-elect Ed!
