A winter storm warning is in effect for Harris County from 6:00 PM Saturday, January 24 to 6:00 PM Sunday, January 25th. Neighbors should prepare now for freezing temperatures, hazardous travel, and potential power outages. 

I spent today getting my house ready for the cold, from wrapping pipes to bringing pets indoors. Watch the video below for tips and resources you can use at home.

Follow the Four Ps to stay safe:

People
    •    Check in on family, neighbors, and community members.
    •    Make sure everyone has warm clothes, gloves, and blankets.
    •    Stock batteries for flashlights and medical devices.

Pets
    •    Bring pets indoors.
    •    Have enough food and medications for them.

Pipes
    •    Wrap exposed outdoor pipes.
    •    Let faucets drip overnight to prevent freezing and bursting.

Plants
    •    Bring plants indoors or cover them.

Please be careful if you plan to drive — roads may be slippery.

The following school districts in TX-29 have announced closures for Monday, January 26th:

• Aldine ISD
• Channelview ISD
• Galena Park ISD
• Houston ISD
• Humble ISD
• Pasadena ISD
• San Jacinto College

City of Houston warming centers will be open from Saturday, January 24 through Tuesday, January 27. If you need information on active warming center locations or need a Z-Trip ride call 3-1-1.

Harris County Precinct 2 will be opening two warming shelters, at the following locations. Their doors will open at 6 p.m. Saturday and remain open until Monday.

• Baldree Community Center, 13828 Corpus Christi St, Houston, TX 77015
• Deputy Almendarez Community Centers, 10918 1/2 Bentley St, Houston, TX 77093
