# [#]Yesterday, I voted NO on a bill to give additional funding to ICE. Let me explain why:

Under President Trump, ICE has become a heavily militarized agency operating in our neighborhoods with little accountability and almost no restraint. Its budget has exploded to nearly $85 billion – larger than the Marine Corps – yet families are being torn apart, civil rights are ignored, and fear is spreading in our communities.

Here in San Diego, we’ve seen this firsthand.

Earlier this year, ICE agents stormed a small neighborhood restaurant in our district. They slammed the owner against a wall, handcuffed workers, and used flash-bang grenades on bystanders – all to arrest four peaceful dishwashers, not violent criminals.

That is not public safety.

Instead of focusing on serious threats, ICE is chasing arrest quotas and sweeping up everyone in their path, including children and even U.S. citizens. And despite all this funding, agents are still not held to the same training and accountability standards as our local police.

That’s why I introduced legislation to limit military-style tactics, require body cameras, improve training, and make sure agents intervene when colleagues act unlawfully.

This is about values. The American people want a secure border and safe communities. They want accountability and common sense – not more arrests, more brutality, or more blank checks.

ICE doesn’t need more money. And it doesn’t get my vote. If you have a moment, please reply to this email and let me know what you think.

Thank you for standing with me,
Scott
