Email from Rep. McCaul One Step Closer to Defeating Childhood Cancer Last night, the House passed my Mikaela Naylon Give Kids A Chance Act — again — as part of a government funding bill that is now headed to the Senate for a vote next week. This crucial bill will spur the development of new pediatric cancer drugs and therapies, ensuring every child is given the best chance to beat this horrible disease. I was honored to celebrate this milestone with many precious childhood cancer patients, survivors, and advocates in the Capitol Visitor Center after the vote. They are my biggest inspiration, and today we are one step closer to defeating childhood cancer once and for all! This bill should have passed last year, but it was shamefully stalled in the Senate by Bernie Sanders, who held the bill hostage for a completely unrelated policy he wanted to pass. Using children with cancer as a bargaining chip for one's political agenda is inexcusable. I sat down for an interview with The National Desk to discuss the importance of this bill and the amazing young woman after whom I named it: Mikaela Naylon, a brave cancer fighter who passed away this year. I also explained why I have such a passion for fighting childhood cancer and standing up for these courageous children. Click below to watch the full story. Click to watch Highlighting the Importance of Cybersecurity Amidst Increased CCP Attacks During my tenure as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, I passed two crucial measures into law — the Cyber Information Sharing Act and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Act — to ensure our nation was prepared to face and combat cyber attacks. Since then, the cyber threats facing the U.S. have only grown; in recent years, the Chinese Communist Party has repeatedly attempted to hack into our sensitive networks and disrupt U.S. infrastructure. At this week's committee hearing, I spoke with Acting CISA Director Dr. Gottumukkala about the status of CISA and the urgent need for Congress to reauthorize the cybersecurity capabilities I championed all those years ago. It is very strategic right now from a national security standpoint against China and Russia. But in 1951 we signed a treaty with Denmark that allows us full access to Greenland to protect Greenland … and us from any threat. … If we want to put more military in there, we can. We don't have to invade it."
