Dear Friends / Estimados Amigos,
This week in Congress, I continued delivering results for South Florida while advancing policies that strengthen our economy, improve housing affordability, enhance regional security, and defend freedom at home and abroad.
On the House floor, we made progress on the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process to secure critical investments for our community. I also continued advancing serious, workable immigration reform that addresses workforce shortages and rising housing costs.
In addition, the House moved forward with the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative legislation to strengthen regional security, and I called on the Department of Justice to fully enforce the TAKE IT DOWN Act to protect victims of online abuse. From Washington, D.C., to every corner of Florida’s 27th District, it is an honor to serve you. My office is always here to help you and your family.
Sincerely / Atentamente,
María E. Salazar
U.S. Representative (FL-27)

This week, the House advanced the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations package, securing funding for several projects I requested on behalf of our community. This is important progress as we continue fighting for South Florida’s priorities and delivering real results for our region.
These investments support transportation, housing, and urban development, including:
-
$960,000 – City of Miami roadway resurfacing along Coral Way from SW 77th Avenue to SW 87th Avenue
-
$5 million – PortMiami Reefer Yard Electrification and Expansion Project
-
$1 million – West Miami Senior Activity Center
- $5 million – City of Miami Auburndale Flood Improvement Project
Together, these investments will strengthen critical infrastructure, improve mobility, expand services for seniors, and boost flood resilience across South Florida.

| | Tackling the Housing Affordability Crisis | | |
This week, I pressed HUD Secretary Scott Turner on the housing affordability crisis and how our broken immigration system is limiting housing supply.
Housing affordability is a supply problem. America is short on both homes and the workers who build them, leaving 75% of Americans priced out of homeownership.
The reality:
- 3.8 million homes short nationwide
- 19,000 homes went unbuilt last year due to worker shortages
- $10.8 billion lost to construction delays
- 1 in 3 construction workers is an immigrant
The Dignity Act strengthens the workforce that builds our homes, increases supply, and helps lower costs. That’s why it’s backed by 60+ stakeholder groups, including the National Association of Home Builders.

| Advancing the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative | | |
This week, Congress took important steps to strengthen regional security, support humanitarian relief, and defend freedom across our hemisphere.
The House moved forward with my Caribbean Basin Security Initiative Authorization Act, which strengthens U.S.–Caribbean security cooperation and counters criminal and authoritarian threats in the region. The bill authorizes and modernizes the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) to enhance maritime and border security, combat transnational organized crime, disrupt illicit financial networks, strengthen law enforcement and prosecutorial capacity, fight corruption, and improve resilience to natural disasters across the Caribbean.
You can watch my full remarks here.

| Ensuring Enforcement of the TAKE IT DOWN Act | |
I joined Senator Amy Klobuchar and Representative Madeleine Dean in urging the Department of Justice to prioritize enforcement of our legislation following alarming reports that X’s Grok chatbot was used to generate and distribute AI-created, non-consensual sexual images.
The TAKE IT DOWN Act was created for this exact purpose.
Congress has done its job. The law is clear.
Now the Department of Justice must ensure it is fully implemented to protect victims and hold abusers accountable
| | |
This week, I joined national and local outlets, including ABC News, and others, to discuss immigration reform, the democratic future of Venezuela and President Trump’s remarks at Davos, and what they signal for U.S. leadership abroad.
I will continue using every platform available to stand up for South Florida families and to defend our shared values of faith, freedom, and opportunity.
