Updates from D.C.

I Voted NO on the DHS Funding Bill

There’s no way I could vote to give ICE more money. Let’s be clear: ICE is now one of the wealthiest law enforcement agencies in this country, and they continue to prove they are ineffective and unqualified.

They are not making our communities safer. They are terrorizing families, kidnapping people, and killing U.S. citizens.

So yes — it was a HELL NO.

Holding ICE Accountable

Image

I am aware of reports that this precious 5-year old, Liam Ramos, who was kidnapped by ICE as he returned home from preschool in Minneapolis may be in San Antonio, Texas.

I will be visiting the Dilley Detention Center in San Antonio next week to conduct oversight and will demand answers on the whereabouts and wellbeing of Liam.

If it were up to me, we’d be at the Dilley Detention Center RIGHT NOW getting answers. But let’s be clear about what’s really happening here: the Trump Administration is illegally blocking Members of Congress from conducting lawful oversight. We have an absolute right—under federal law and the Constitution—to enter detention facilities, unannounced, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of people in government custody.

I am outraged. My heart aches for Liam’s family. We will get answers.

TRACK ICE Act

Image

This week, I was proud to introduce the TRACK ICE Act, legislation that will ensure flight immigration operations can no longer hide behind privacy loopholes.

I am tired of the abuse, the lack of transparency, and the dehumanization. The people deserve answers and I am demanding them.

Exposing the Hypocrisy Behind Congress’ Epstein Subpoena Fight

Republicans only care about “following the rules” when they can weaponize them. But the second it cuts both ways, they go mute.

Pam Bondi and the DOJ have failed to comply with the subpoena and discharge petition — and y’all have nothing but excuses for them.

It’s time to stop playing games and get serious about oversight and accountability.

Trump Ran for President to Avoid Prison

This week, Jack Smith testified before Congress. He came with the facts and stood on business. Instead of disputing Donald Trump’s guilt, Republicans focused on attacking Jack Smith and questioning whether the investigation should have happened at all.

I called out the selective outrage, the conspiracy theories, and the attempt to rewrite January 6 while ignoring the evidence, the violence, and the members of Congress who helped make it happen.
