In late December, President Trump vetoed a bipartisan bill that would have delivered clean, safe drinking water to rural communities across southern Colorado. The Arkansas Valley Conduit has been decades in the making. It would bring reliable water to families, farmers, and small towns who have waited far too long. The bill passed Congress with support from both parties – but Trump killed it anyway.
Why? He claimed “fiscal sanity.”
But Colorado leaders from across the political spectrum say this veto looks a lot more like political retaliation – punishment for Colorado refusing to pardon Tina Peters – one of Trump’s closest election-denying allies.
This isn’t the first sign of attack against Colorado. Just a few months back Trump moved the US Space Command from Colorado Springs to Alabama in retaliation to Colorado’s mail-in voting system.
This is exactly what happens when extremists put grudges and politics ahead of people – Coloradans end up suffering.
