| Hello John, In an important video address to the nation, President Trump urged Congress to get busy on passing his new health care reform agenda, which he calls The Great Health Care Plan. His plan is bold and includes a number of themes that regular readers of this newsletter will recognize because they track with what’s in the Personal Option plan that we (with your help!) have been pushing for years. It’s nice to see our hard work pay off! Here are four HUGE ways this would reform America’s health care: 1. The president’s plan aims to fundamentally shift the American health care system by bypassing insurance companies and delivering financial assistance directly to citizens. - Instead of routing subsidies through insurers, the president would send funds directly to eligible Americans via tax-free health savings accounts — our own personal medical “wallets” that enable us to purchase the care and coverage of our choice.
Here’s the bottom line: President Trump seems absolutely determined to reduce the influence of “Big Insurance” and put consumers back in control of their health care spending. He wants to fund you and me, the patients, not the big health insurance companies. Excellent. 2. The plan includes cost-sharing reductions. - This would end an inflationary loophole in Obamacare and reduce insurance premiums in the Affordable Care Act marketplaces by an average of 10% to 15%, saving consumers billions.
3. Another provision would codify the TrumpRx direct-to-consumer drug purchasing website and allow more drugs to be sold there. - Direct-to-consumer purchasing saves money by cutting out needless middlemen and delivering deep discounts directly to consumers with a lot more convenience.
4. Trump’s plan would also make medicines available for over-the-counter purchase. - This is a no-brainer. Too many drugs these days require a doctor’s prescription, even though they are safe when used as the label recommends. Think of how much time and money we can all save by not having to make needless trips to the doctor’s office.
There’s more, but you get the gist. The national health care debate is revving up. And again, most of what the president wants to do is already part of our Personal Option plan. Voters are demanding action NOW on health care affordability, and The Great Health Care Plan provides a solid, exciting framework to build on. Please take 60 seconds to sign our petition: Let’s put pressure on Congress to reform our health care so it funds the patient — not the system. |
