1. Fund overdose prevention and other addiction efforts

While overdose deaths have decreased in recent years, tens of thousands of people still die from overdoses each year, and millions more have substance use disorders and are at risk for overdose and other harms.
In order to continue this progress and prevent a backslide, continued federal funding is needed for the agencies and programs that provide effective prevention and treatment services.
Congress is currently working on a budget for fiscal year 2026, with a deadline of January 30. The House of Representatives passed a version yesterday that would maintain or increase funding for many of the agencies and programs that provide support for addiction research and programs. Now, the bill needs to pass in the Senate and be signed by the President.
Given the recent threats to federal funding for substance use services, ensuring the final budget includes this funding is particularly important.
Send a letter to your senators urging them to ensure that the final budget bill includes full funding for these agencies and programs to continue critical efforts to prevent overdoses and address the addiction crisis.

There is still time to register for this free webinar to learn about the connection between mental health and substance use. Partnership to End Addiction's Senior VP of Prevention Research and Analysis, Linda Richter, will join a discussion with Operation Parent on February 11 at 1PM EST.
They will talk about co-occurring disorders — when substance use and mental health disorders happen at the same time. She will help explain warning signs, discuss ways to support your loved one, and reduce risk.
