Friend, people are speaking up, and it’s making a real difference. Thanks to organizing and pressure on lawmakers, city councils and statehouses across the country are considering a slate of measures and bills that would go a long way toward protecting immigrants and reining in ICE and CBP’s lawlessness:

In New York, lawmakers are considering legislation that would prohibit local governments and law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement. When state and local police take part in ICE’s abusive practices, it makes our communities less safe. State lawmakers have the power to fight back.

Lawmakers in Delaware are considering a bill that would prohibit private ICE detention facilities in the state. In New Mexico, legislators are weighing a proposal that would bar public entities from contracting with federal agencies to detain immigrants in the state. Private prison executives make millions from detaining people in unsafe, often abusive conditions. Ending reliance on these facilities is a step toward preventing further abuse.

Tennessee and Georgia are proposing measures that would protect immigrants at school, hospitals, places of worship, and other community spaces. Ensuring these spaces are truly safe is essential for people to live and participate in their communities without fear.

Denver, Colorado is considering a ban on face coverings for law enforcement, including ICE agents, during arrests in the city. In Washington, lawmakers are considering a similar ban on law enforcement face coverings during public interactions. All of us are less safe when masked agents are on our streets. We need more transparency and accountability.

And so many more. These actions build on a wave of bills introduced and signed into law in 2025, and more states are considering additional legislation in the weeks and months ahead.

Elected officials are listening because people like you are raising their voices. We must keep up the pressure, so they don’t waver. If you’ve already sent a message to your state legislators, send another! If you haven’t yet, join us in calling on them to do EVERYTHING in their power to fight back against Trump's secret police: ([link removed])
