In the People’s House, the days of bloated omnibus bills are over – we’ve taken demonstrable steps to restore regular order that has long been absent from this legislative body. This week was a monumental week – we’ve completed the appropriations process following the passage of the last four appropriations bills. House Republicans, under the direction of Speaker Johnson, have defied expectations and passed all 12 appropriations bills to secure the priorities of President Trump and hardworking Americans just like you. Indeed, there’s much to celebrate.

To recap, here are the following appropriations bills that successfully passed the People’s House on Thursday of this week:

  • Defense
  • Homeland Security
  • Labor, Health, and Human Services
  • Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development

All four make important contributions to our nation’s defense posture, our systems of infrastructure, research and innovation within health, and national security. As the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Tom Cole, has said countless times over the past few months, this entire process has been deliberate and has been supported by the input of members on both sides of the aisle. I wholeheartedly agree with Chairman Cole’s sentiment, and I will also add that this process, and the victories that we have achieved thus far, signal a fundamental, positive change within this legislative body – a change that should be taken note of and celebrated. We’re on a stronger and better path now.

As Chair of the House Rules Committee, I’m proud to have played a fundamental role in moving all 12 appropriations bills to the floor for full consideration and I applaud everyone – from members of Congress to our dedicated staff – who have invested their time, energy, and expertise into getting them across the finish line. I’m very much looking forward to continuing our work in service to you as we move forward.

My Latest Speech

Recently, I had the opportunity to address the Coolidge Foundation at a recent conference in Washington that highlighted the importance of entrepreneurs throughout the nation’s history. It’s really no secret that these entrepreneurs among us all are some of the most gifted people on God’s green earth. They’re problem solvers, and as we all understand quite well, there are always problems to be solved. I’ve spoken to the Coolidge Foundation before, and let me tell you, it’s always a treat. President Coolidge understood the value that entrepreneurs brought to society, and he was one of their biggest champions – we certainly have a great deal to learn from him.

A Piece of American History

Recently, the Carolina Journal ran a very interesting article by Ben Sellers discussing the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1781. This may sound familiar as I have covered this historic event in one of my previous newsletters to you on August 22nd of last year. I found this article to be incredibly insightful, and I intend to schedule a visit to the Guilford Courthouse battlefield in the coming months so that I can experience this important history up close. North Carolina’s history, as it relates to the founding of our nation, is incredibly extensive – we should all take the opportunity to learn more about the history of the state that we are all proud to call our home.
