LGBTQ+ survivors of the Los Angeles Eaton Fire face distinct challenges to recovery |
In January 2025, Los Angeles County experienced two of the most destructive wildfires in California’s history. Our new study, conducted in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, examines the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals affected by the Eaton Fire.
While LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ residents reported many of the same post-fire needs, pre-existing inequities shaped recovery outcomes and compounded harm for LGBTQ+ people. For example, LGBTQ+ respondents were far more likely to be renters and less likely to be homeowners, creating distinct housing vulnerabilities during recovery.

Over 90% of transgender and nonbinary people surveyed in Norway satisfied with gender-affirming care outcomes |
A new article, co-authored by Williams Institute Distinguished Scholar Ilan Meyer, along with scholars from the University of Agder, Norway, found that the vast majority of transgender and nonbinary people surveyed in Norway were satisfied with their gender-affirming medical care outcomes. This included 93% of those who received hormones and 96% of those who underwent surgery.
An examination of the respondents' overall health and well-being found that one-third reported ever having attempted suicide—12 times the rate in Norway's general population.
