Dear John,
Since 1999, more than 398,000 students have experienced gun violence at school. I am one of the educators behind that number, and I carry the weight of that day at Sandy Hook School with me every day.
For too long, the people closest to the crisis, the educators and the students who huddle in dark closets and under desks, have been excluded from the national dialogue. It’s easy for politicians to ignore the reality of gun violence in schools if they never have to hear from the people who experience it firsthand.
We are changing that by turning our fear and outrage into the power needed to protect our schools. Your support helps us amplify educator voices so that teachers' lived experiences shape local and federal legislation. It also enables us to provide immediate peer-to-peer support for impacted educators and prevents future lockdowns through Project Lockdown, which addresses the single biggest threat to our schools: unlocked guns at home.
Survival shouldn’t be a prerequisite for being heard, and we ask that you stand with us to ensure our voices lead the way to a safer future.
