Dear John,

This week, four funding bills came to the House floor for a vote – packaged together in two different votes known as a “minibus.” One of these bills was a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security and Kristi Noem’s ICE.

As we all have witnessed, the Trump Administration has made it their mission to incite chaos and fear in our state. This week, ICE detained a five-year-old boy in Minneapolis. A five-year-old. And earlier this month, the President’s political stunt got Renee Good shot and killed. Even that didn’t stop him. Folks, we’re getting to the point where I don’t even recognize our country anymore. This is so wrong, so calculated and so cruel.

I’ve said multiple times that I won’t give a penny to Kristi Noem’s ICE. But the reality is, until the chaos in Minnesota stops, I won’t support another penny to the entire Trump Administration. I refuse to play a part in their cruel and dangerous agenda. And while this package contained some important provisions, I couldn’t in good faith support the funding packages on the floor this week that enable the Trump Administration while they are terrorizing our communities.

So, I voted no on all four bills.

Through their reckless and lawless ICE operations in Minnesota, the Trump Administration has targeted communities of color, ripped families apart, detained U.S. citizens, made it difficult for law enforcement officers to do their jobs and even detained children. None of this makes us safer. In fact, it puts us all in danger.

Right now, it’s more important than ever that we do everything in our power to fight this Administration. And that means using Congress’ power of the purse to send the message that enough is enough.

Every week, I receive thousands of messages from folks who are deeply concerned about ICE’s activities in our state. I want you to know that I hear you and that you give me hope. President Trump wants us to turn against one another, but as Minnesotans, we won’t. We can’t. And just as you all continue to do the work, I promise to continue to do everything I can in Congress to fight back against this Administration’s cruelty.

I urge you to stay peaceful, take care of yourselves and take care of one another. It’s what being a Minnesotan is all about.

Here’s what else I’ve been up to this week:

Coming together as a community to fight ICE

Minnesotans need their leaders to step up and work together. It’s the only way we will be able to stop this chaos and cruelty – and get back to the Minnesota we know and love.

That’s why this week my office hosted a workshop for community leaders, elected officials and law enforcement to get on the same page about how we can protect our communities from ICE’s destructive operations.

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Monday, I gathered with Governor Walz and other Minnesota leaders to honor the incredible life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Together, we’re continuing the fight for justice and equality.

Working to make food assistance available for Minnesotans

It was great to meet with Second Harvest Heartland last week in Minnesota.

As this Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture continue to withhold critical nutrition funding from Minnesota, the work local organizations like Second Harvest do is more important than ever.

Behind the scenes:

The past few weeks have been hard, but I’ve been grateful to have Dakota in DC with me. She really does get me.

This is exactly how I feel most days dealing with this Administration too.
