John,
Last week, we asked for your input and received thousands of responses outlining how the growth and expansion of data centers impacts you and your community. We heard from you about your rising electric bills, drain on local water resources, and toxic air pollution.
Given how urgent this issue is and how it touches so many corners of our lives — our health, our environment, our wallets, our society and politics — we’re going all-in to Stop Data Centers Now!
Help us launch our campaign by calling for an end to data center growth and expansion now! ([link removed])
Last year, Food & Water Watch became the first national organization to demand a halt on all new data centers. It’s past time to slam the brakes.
Over 230 national, state, and local environmental and community organizations have joined our call1 by sending a letter to Congress, along with Bernie Sanders ([link removed]), demanding a national moratorium on the approval and construction of new data centers. We cannot allow these facilities to continue growing unrestrained.

This will not be an easy fight. We’re up against tech giants, billionaires, and rogue politicians determined to line their pockets with dirty money over the needs of their own people. Now more than ever, it’s crucial that we fight back.
For the following reasons, Food & Water Watch is calling for an immediate halt to new data center growth and expansion:
Environmental Impact: Data centers are adding fuel to the fire of the climate crisis and drying up and polluting local water resources.
Rising Utility Bills: Families are already struggling to pay the bills, and data centers are putting even more strain on budgets by spiking electricity and water bills across the country.
People vs Profits: Make no mistake – the data center boom is about making Big Tech companies richer while our climate, water, and utility bills suffer.
Social impact: The rapid and unregulated deployment of AI and Crypto, and the data centers that are required to support them, are having significant and disruptive impacts on all aspects of society.
It’s time to put the brakes on new data centers until a clear regulatory framework that protects communities and the environment is established. ([link removed])
Take Action Now! ([link removed])
Food & Water Watch is partnering with communities that are powering the grassroots movement to stop data center growth and expansion.
With our combination of smart strategy and relentless people power, we’re ready to protect our communities from data centers at the local, state, and national level, and we know that we can win.
Our full-scale fight against data centers will include mobilizing organizers, producing hard-hitting research, engaging volunteers, and building a robust national coalition of allied organizations to mount a powerful opposition campaign to stop new data centers.
The movement against data centers is a movement for our communities and our climate against mega-corporations and their allies in power. This movement is growing, and we’re proud to be a part of it.
Today, we’re sending the message to Congress, loud and clear: STOP AI data center growth and expansion. ([link removed])
Onward together,
