Oklahoma is a childcare desert, which means that over half the state lives in an area where affordable childcare simply isn't available. In rural areas, that number jumps to 70%.
This isn't a new issue. Since the start of COVID, childcare centers across the country have seen rising costs and a shrinking workforce. And in the last year, Republicans have worsened the blow to our childcare system by cutting the funds that keep childcare affordable.
The consequences of failed Republican leadership have been catastrophic: In the last three months alone, over 400 childcare centers across the state closed their doors.
While Democrats have been advocating for solutions like universal childcare, Republicans are making the problem worse. In July, the Oklahoma Childcare Subsidy is getting cut from 85% of the median income to just 55%. In April, the last of the COVID relief money, which kept childcare centers' doors open during the COVID crisis, is expiring- without a sufficient replacement to meet the need.
Democrats are working towards solutions. Like Rep. Schreiber (D-Tulsa) working tirelessly in the State Legislature to expand Oklahoma's childcare system and pass legislation to bring childcare centers back from the brink, Democrats are united around the fact that something has to change.
Will you chip in just $10, $26, or whatever you can to help us elect Democrats who will fight to expand and protect Childcare centers from MAGA attacks?
