Dear Friend,
We are the children of immigrants.
That sentence isn’t a slogan to us. It’s our lived experience.
For some of us, it’s parents who came from Pakistan, bringing faith, resilience, and a belief that their children deserved safety and opportunity. For some, it’s family roots in Ecuador, where courage and sacrifice made a new life in Maryland possible. For others, it’s a father from Jamaica, whose journey shaped a family grounded in hard work and pride. And for others, it’s a father from Trinidad and Tobago, whose story reminds us that migration is an act of hope and determination.
Different countries. Different languages. Different cultures. One shared truth: Maryland is our home.
We’re staff here at Progressive Maryland, and every single day, we see how immigrant families like ours make this state stronger, more vibrant, and more humane.
That’s why we do this work and why the fight to end Maryland’s collaboration with ICE matters so deeply to each of us–because we know that it impacts all of us.
Programs that entangle local law enforcement with federal immigration enforcement don’t make our communities safer: They tear families apart. They silence victims. They replace trust with fear. And in a moment when immigrant families are facing escalating attacks, harassment, and more violence across this country, the stakes could not be higher.
We refuse to accept a future where our family, friends, and neighbors live in fear of a traffic stop.
We refuse to accept policies that treat our families as disposable.
We refuse to accept that safety and dignity are not in our future.
If you believe, as we do, that Maryland can be a place where immigrant families are protected, valued, and free to thrive, then we need you with us.
Please consider making a contribution today to help fund our advocacy work in passing bills to end local and state collaboration with ICE and build a more just future for all of us.
