*BREAKING: Federal Audit Finds $45.6 Million in Improper MaineCare Autism Payments; State Owes $28.7 Million to Federal Government*
*STATEMENT FROM HOUSE REPUBLICANS*
“This federal Inspector General's audit confirms what Republicans have been warning for years: fraud, waste, and abuse within MaineCare is widespread and can no longer be dismissed or hidden. According to the audit, Maine made more than $45.6 million in improper payments tied to autism services for children and must now repay $28.7 million to the federal government.
“These failures harm taxpayers and, more importantly, jeopardize services for the vulnerable children and families who truly depend on MaineCare. Rather than address rampant waste, fraud and abuse identified by their own Auditor, Democrats raised taxes primarily on Maine’s working poor.”
