Good morning!
We are entering the final weeks of interim now, with the 2026 Legislative Session set to begin on February 17th. Looking back, the 2025 session was nothing short of bizarre, and left us with a lot of work to do in the upcoming year. We are narrowing our focus on the things that Minnesotans need most, primarily cutting the fraud to spare Minnesotan families the astronomical cost. I look forward to getting back into the swing of things in St. Paul, but am soaking up my last moments in our community while I can. As always, thank you for your support!
March for Life 2026
The annual March for Life this week was a wonderful celebration for a worthy cause. Although I wasn't able to attend, I am grateful for my colleagues who stood in the gap at the rally, braving the cold to show their support. This serves as a reminder of why we do what we do, fighting for life across the state and the country. Thank you to all who participated, whether in St. Paul or in your own communities!

Nick Shirley Testifies to Congress about Minnesota Fraud
The focus on fraud continued this week following Representatives Robbins, Hudson, and Rarick’s meetings in Washington, D.C. last week to raise concerns about ongoing abuse of public programs. Independent journalist Nick Shirley [ [link removed] ] testified before the U.S. House Oversight Committee, where he shared firsthand reporting and documentation detailing widespread fraud, weak oversight, and systemic failures that have allowed taxpayer dollars to be misused. His testimony echoed what many Minnesotans have been saying for years: these are not isolated incidents, but large scale schemes that flourish when accountability is lacking. The hearing continued to bring national attention to the scope of the problem and reinforced the need for stronger enforcement, real consequences for bad actors, and meaningful reforms to prevent fraud before it happens rather than reacting after the damage is done.

Day of 'Truth and Freedom'
Today is what the Democrat Socialists of America (DSA) [ [link removed] ] and Party of Socialism and Liberation (PSL) [ [link removed] ] call the 'Day of Truth and Freedom.' People across the country, but primarily across the Twin Cities, have called on local residents and businesses to "blackout" the economy today by staying home from work, school, and refrain from shopping.
Strikes like this one are a first amendment right, allowing people to show their support, or lack thereof, for different movements and actions. While this strike is meant to show support to immigrants in the face of increased ICE activity in the metro, leaders neglect to mention the fact that the strike will disproportionately effect immigrants in the workforce and many immigrant-owned small businesses. A few restaurant and small business owners across the metro have quietly spoken up about the pressure to shut down today, and how it will inevitably cost them and their employees. This article [ [link removed] ] perfectly summarizes the actual impact of the strike and why it couldn't come at a worse time, one excerpt reads: "This hurts Minnesota’s economy and our local businesses."
Even worse, employees in MN have been encouraged by the DSA to take Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) [ [link removed] ] to participate in the strike. The purpose of ESST, according to state law, [ [link removed] ] is for "when an employee is sick, to care for a sick family member or to seek assistance if an employee or their family member has experienced domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking." This is a blatant misuse of ESST, and should not be permitted!

Visiting Caring Hands Dental
I had a great visit to Caring Hands Dental clinic with Rep. Jeff Backer this week. Thank you to John Kunelius and Emma Zimmerman for having a productive discussion about dental care for children and families on medical assistance with us. I am grateful for your commitment to and care for our Alexandria community!

Congrats to Nelson Care Center!
It was an honor to go to Nelson Care Center (by Vivie) and present them with a House resolution, pictured below. Nelson Care Center serves the Alexandria community and was recognized as a top health care facility nationally by the U.S. News & World Report. I am so grateful for their continued care for our community and commitment to excellent service. Thank you for all that you do!
