EMET APPLAUDS AIPAC FOR ITS EXCELLENT WORK ON THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT

(Washington, D.C., July 27, 2020) These are extremely challenging times for the state of Israel and the Jewish people. As we write these words, tensions are mounting on the border between Israel and Lebanon, and between Israel and Syria. This morning, a cell of the Iranian proxy, Hezbollah, attempted to cross the border into Israel, proper. An exchange of gunfire ensued. Some outlets have also reported that Hezbollah fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli tank. Thankfully, it appears that, for now, at least, the IDF has managed to contain the situation, although the situation remains very tense.

The IDF remains on a state of high alert, and the government of the state of Israel has told residents of the north to stay inside their homes, at this moment. When dealing with forces such as Hezbollah, whose entire modus vivendi is the destruction of the state of Israel, no-one knows when they will start lobbing missiles into Israeli towns and cities.

Hezbollah now has an arsenal of 150,000 missiles, many of which they are in the process of converting from “dummy missiles” to “precision guided missiles,” which can be programed to reach into valuable parts of Israel’s national infrastructure, which can do a tremendous amount of damage.

Closer to home, the situation on Capitol Hill has become a challenging one. We, at EMET have certainly experienced how the bipartisan support for Israel, which had until recent years always been considered a bipartisan issue, is eroding among certain quarters.

That is one of the reasons EMET so deeply applauds the work of AIPAC in sustaining the critically important funding for the essential defense systems of the Iron Dome, the David’s Sling, and the Arrow Missile Shield. Last week, the NDAA Act passed the relevant committee by a large bipartisan consensus.

Says Sarah Stern, Founder and President of EMET, “It is essential that everyone in the Jewish community knows that AIPAC’s work is vital to the continuous security and survival of the state of Israel. EMET has never once lobbied for anything having to do with defense appropriations. That is the strength and the beauty of AIPAC. I have always told everyone that I support AIPAC, and am a member of one of their clubs, and encourage all of my friends to support AIPAC, as well. It is because the very survival of 9 million people who live-in the state of Israel, including my own children and grandchildren, depend on their critically important work.”
Founded in 2005, The Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) is a Washington, D.C. based think tank and policy center with an unabashedly pro-America and pro-Israel stance. EMET (which means truth in Hebrew) prides itself on challenging the falsehoods and misrepresentations that abound in U.S. Middle East policy.
