Hey there, it’s Martin Sheen.
You may know me from my roles as an actor — including a former fictional president — but tonight I’m reaching out as an American concerned about the direction our nation is heading.
My character in the West Wing famously said, “I’m the President of the United States, not the president of the people who agree with me.”
And I think that’s a lesson Donald Trump needs to learn.
As he dismantles checks on his power and purges the government of dissenters, Americans are becoming more and more afraid to speak up and use their constitutionally protected rights to fight back against this administration.
It’s downright scary and un-American. The health of our democracy relies on spirited debate and freedom of speech, and we’re seeing this tradition slowly disappear.
In the midst of this chaos, one thing has become clear: We need leaders to reject this turn towards authoritarianism and stand up against Trump.
And right now — as Republicans maintain their hold on Congress and the White House — the only way we can stop the descent to one-man rule is to win in the midterms.
And no one is facing a tougher race than Jon Ossoff in Georgia this year.
Jon is the only Democratic Senator up for reelection in a state Donald Trump won in 2024 and is the GOP’s top target for defeat. He’s a champion for the people of Georgia and a watchdog for corruption.
He’s exactly the kind of leader we need at a time like this.
