John,Last week, I called for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem because it was the right thing to do.

This was a direct response to the tragic killing of Renee Nicole Good, an American citizen and young mother of three, by an ICE agent. And it follows a pattern of misusing taxpayer funds and showing a complete disregard for the rule of law.

Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, DHS has become a rogue agency. Masked agents are creating chaos and detaining citizens with impunity, actively making our communities less safe.

That’s why I’m taking a stand.

I cannot, in good conscience, support any DHS appropriations bill that fails to address oversight and reform. To support this agency while it operates this way is to endorse its cruelty and failure.

This agency has already received a $150 billion slush fund from the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans — and it is still not making our communities safer.

My record proves I fight for real security with justice.

I’ve introduced bipartisan legislation like the Advanced Border Coordination Act of 2025 to enhance cargo scanning at our ports of entry and improve coordination between law enforcement agencies at the border.

I also voted to invest $4.4 billion in state and local law enforcement to help recruit officers and combat crime.

And I secured over $1.5 million for Albuquerque and Bernalillo County to get technology that shortens emergency response times.

But this cruelty is not security. We need accountability, transparency, and a DHS that operates under the law — not above it.
