Yesterday, Summer Lee introduced an amendment to hold Attorney General Pam Bondi in civil contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a lawful subpoena to release the full, unredacted Epstein files.
The Department of Justice has been legally required to turn over these files for months — and yet they’ve released just one percent, most of it heavily redacted. That’s not transparency. That’s obstruction.
So Summer took action — AGAIN — to hold the most powerful law enforcement official in the country accountable to the law.
But it’s important to know: this moment didn’t come out of nowhere.
Back in July, Summer forced a motion to subpoena the Department of Justice for the Epstein files. That motion passed with bipartisan support, 8–2. The Oversight Committee issued the subpoena in August, legally compelling the DOJ to comply.
It should come as no surprise that they failed to comply. Instead, the Department has released just one percent of the files — much of it heavily redacted.
So now Summer is escalating because accountability doesn’t mean anything if there are no consequences for breaking the law.
And this is exactly how Summer shows up across the board.
Just last week, she joined her colleagues in introducing articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for obstruction of Congress, violating constitutional rights, and misusing taxpayer dollars after Members of Congress were blocked from entering detention facilities and as ICE carries out violent, warrantless raids in communities across the country.
And while she’s leading these fights, she’s also doing the daily work of governing: Summer is one of only a handful of Members of Congress who has never missed a single vote during her entire time in office. She shows up. Every time. No matter what.
Summer isn’t just talking about justice.
She’s forcing votes.
She’s filing motions.
She’s introducing amendments.
She’s doing the job — and going above and beyond for the people.
She’s holding their feet to the fire.
