John,
Right now, families across the country are facing real uncertainty about their health care.
In Washington, Senate Republicans are kicking the can on extending Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, even after seventeen House Republicans joined Democrats last week to vote to expand them. That delay has left families wondering what comes next for their coverage.
Those subsidies kept premiums affordable for millions of people, but once Republicans let them expire, families felt the impact almost immediately through higher costs and fewer options.
Now, premiums are rising, uncertainty is spreading, and Senate Republicans continue to refuse to step in.
Connecticut Democrats aren’t sitting quietly while that happens.
Democrats in the U.S. House forced a vote to extend ACA premium tax credits that Republican leadership had blocked for months. Every member of Connecticut’s Democratic House delegation voted yes , standing with families, seniors, and anyone who depends on affordable coverage.
In the U.S. Senate, Democrats including our CT senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal are pushing for action to restore those subsidies and protect coverage nationwide. But as long as Senate Republicans continue to delay, premiums remain at risk of going up and families are left in limbo.
That is why your Connecticut Democrats aren’t waiting on Washington.
This week, Governor Ned Lamont announced that Connecticut is prepared to extend the Access Health CT open enrollment period in response to the federal uncertainty, giving families more time to get covered while Congress drags its feet.
In moments of uncertainty, leadership matters. Here in Connecticut, our leaders are showing that when Washington fails to act, families won’t be left behind. That’s what real governing looks like.
Sincerely,
Sarah Locke
