Dear John,
We have just closed the books, and I am simply in awe of the work that God has made possible in fiscal year 2020. With your faithful prayers and support, we have continued serving those affected by crime and incarceration—despite challenges brought about by COVID-19. And, we have served in creative new ways because of the challenges. Will you join me in celebrating just a sampling of how God has allowed us to continue His work in prison this fiscal year?
- We have expanded our yearlong Prison Fellowship Academy program to 110 sites in 29 states, with many participants and staff finding innovative options to keep the program going during pandemic lockdowns. We even hosted a videoconference graduation ceremony <[link removed]> at one site so family and friends could celebrate with graduates there.
- Where prison doors have been closed to staff and volunteers, we have sent in record numbers <[link removed]> of both our Inside Journal quarterly newspaper and copies of the Inside Journal Life Recovery Bible.
- Behind those same closed doors, we launched our Floodlight platform, which makes available free encouraging and inspiring faith-based content for use on prison televisions and tablets. Floodlight now has reached behind the bars in 41 states, where more than 440,000 people have access to this positive content every day.
- Our Angel Tree team has been hard at work adjusting our outreach in these unprecedented times, creating a Virtual Angel Tree option for delivering Christmas gifts to children through the mail; providing care packages <[link removed]> of a grocery gift card, Bible, and sports ball to Angel Tree Camping families; and hosting virtual sports clinics so kids can continue to grow in their skills and faith while they’re staying safe at home.
- Our advocacy team has been hard at work tracking COVID-19 cases in prison <[link removed]> and advocating for the use of a variety of mechanisms and authorities for the safe release of individuals from prisons during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are grateful to God, Who we know makes all things to work together for His glory. And we appreciate each of you who make this important work possible each day. Please let us know if there is a specific prayer request <[link removed]> we can lift up for you and your family.
We thank God for your continued support <[link removed]> and prayers.
Praising Him with You,
James J. Ackerman
