Dear Fresh Energy Community,
I want to acknowledge that we are living through an impossibly difficult moment. Our communities are reeling in the face of the ICE surge, as agents continue to employ unlawful, racist, and violent force in interactions with impacted communities, observers, and protesters. We mourn and condemn the senseless killing of Renee Good. We are heartbroken for all the Minnesotan families ripped apart, terrorized, and forced into hiding.
Like many of you, our staff has struggled with the crushing weight of the moment as we continue to do the work to meet the increasingly difficult challenge of advancing our mission in the face of considerable federal headwinds on climate and clean energy.
Fresh Energy’s staff is diverse and deeply interwoven into their communities. What's happening in our state is on our minds every second of every day as we strive to be both present for one another, our families, and our communities, while also sustaining ourselves in Fresh Energy's mission.
Outside of the office, our staff are engaged, like many of you in the Fresh Energy community, in acts of public service and protest, or quite simply, in ensuring their own personal safety.
As an organization, we're in dialogue internally as we continue to seek ways to help our team remain strong, supportive, and resilient. We also made the important decision to close our office on Friday, January 23rd in solidarity with other organizations and businesses in our state.
As Minnesota is once again thrust into the national spotlight, I am proud of our staff, our community, and so many Minnesotans who have taken a stand against this federal action. We know that our differences make us stronger, that caring for one another is our way of life, and that we will not be intimidated into silence and inaction.
Thank you for your support of Fresh Energy and our communities in this moment, and I hope that you are finding ways to take care of yourselves during this extremely challenging time, as well.
Sincerely,
