Hi John - There are few things that make me more outraged than the fact that in our country of such bounty there are millions of children who go hungry every day. That’s an unacceptable problem during normal times. It’s been made worse by the ongoing impact of the pandemic. Childhood hunger is something we can stop – and we must. Thankfully, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps families who have fallen on hard times. It lets them continue to put food on the table while they get back on their feet. But the program is not meeting the need of families during this unprecedented time. Congress is debating a new coronavirus relief package right now. We need to make sure that SNAP benefits are increased until the economy recovers. Send a message to your members of Congress today! Many SNAP recipients are grandparents living on fixed incomes, like Michelle in Tennessee. She is raising her grandson, Carter. Michelle can provide a stable, nurturing environment for him, but needs a little extra help with her food budget to help feed her growing grandson. The pandemic has added millions of additional families in need of temporary food assistance. Recent estimates are that currently, close to 1 in 5 young children are not getting enough to eat. Without additional benefits, kids like Carter will go hungry. Time is running out to make sure that Congress provides critical funding for SNAP! Your members of Congress need to hear from you today. Ask your members of Congress to increase SNAP benefits to keep kids from going hungry! Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
