Our team at the Data Quality Campaign is always paying close attention to the policies and practices that make education and workforce data work for people—in states and federally. As the federal data landscape continues to shift, state policymakers must go beyond compliance with federal requirements and lead data innovation in their states, and federal leaders must work collaboratively to return stability to the data ecosystem.

Here’s what we’re watching in 2026:

At the state level ([link removed]) , legislators should champion three high-impact data policy priorities:
* Use data to address the crisis in academics and attendance;
* Build and maintain trust in data; and
* Ensure people can navigate a changing job market.

* The future of the Institute of Education Sciences and continued federal data collections;
* Federal and state alignment on student privacy;
* Federal access to personally identifiable information; and
