Last night, Jane Fonda sat down with Stephen Colbert to discuss the powerful forces trying to tear our democracy apart — and what each of us can do to defend it:

Authoritarianism has made its way into every nook and cranny of our government.

We’re watching attacks on artists and the media, brazen lies told straight to the American people, the outright ignoring of Congress — even suggesting that we shouldn’t have midterm elections at all.

People are being kidnapped. Families are being illegally deported. Civilians are being shot. And as Jane said last night, this isn’t a question of right or left — it’s a question of right or wrong.

Lines are being crossed, and we’ve had enough, John.

Too many precious lives have been lost defending the freedoms we hold today. So we have to organize and work together to stop what’s coming because our power as people does make a difference.

One flipped seat at a time, one brave climate champion at a time, we will secure a future where we breathe clean air, drink clean water, and protect our most fundamental rights from being stripped away.
