Note From the Chair
Hey folks! Rita Hart here.
The year has been off to a rocky start. Trump has failed to deliver on his promise to bring down grocery prices. The average American is paying an additional $310 for groceries [[link removed]] in 2025 compared to the year before. That amounts to a 4% increase, higher than [[link removed]] the year-over-year inflation rate since Trump took office one year ago today.
The average Iowan is paying $1,303 more [[link removed]] per year for necessary expenses like health care, utilities, food and clothing. Iowans paid $159 more for housing in 2025 than 2024, and $114 more for transportation.
Republicans are leaving working folks without. It is getting harder and harder to make ends meet, our rural economy is struggling due to uncertainty, and Republicans are not doing anything to lower costs. Iowans deserve better. We need to elect leaders who’ll work to fix our state, not play pretend while everything falls apart. To learn more about how you can get involved, visit iowademocrats.org [[link removed]] .
Sincerely,
Rita Hart
