Ma also has been endorsed by more than 500 federal, state, and local public officials. They include Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Secretary of State Shirley Weber, and State Controller Malia Cohen.

For more than two decades, she has built a reputation as a problem-solving public servant, adept at building unlikely coalitions to overcome California’s most complex problems. Treasurer Ma was first elected in 2018 with more votes than any other candidate for treasurer in the state’s history and re-elected to her second term in 2022. She is the first woman of color and the first woman Certified Public Accountant (CPA) elected to the position.
Prior to being elected Treasurer, she was an elected member of the California Board of Equalization from 2014 – 2018. Ma was a member of the State Assembly from 2006-2012, serving as Speaker pro Tempore from 2010 to 2012. From 2002-2006, she served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
