News from Representative Teresa Leger Fernández

Dear Friend,

You may be eligible for a $100,000 payment through the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) expansion — and many New Mexicans don’t even realize they qualify.

That’s right: New Mexico downwinders and post-1971 uranium workers are now eligible for compensation related to radiation exposure from that first atomic bomb exploded in New Mexico.  If you lived anywhere in New Mexico for one year between September 24, 1944 and November 6, 1962, or for all of June 30 to July 31, 1962 and have an eligible radiation exposure disease, you can apply. You can also apply as a survivor if your eligible spouse, parents or grandparents died. Learn more about who qualifies HERE.

I introduced the RECA Expansion bill that provides this payment in every Congress since getting elected, so I want to make sure no one misses out.  I’m inviting you to join me for an in-person RECA workshop with trusted experts and advocates who will walk through:

  • Who qualifies
  • What documents you need
  • How to apply
  • And how to avoid scams

Event details:

  • Santa Fe
  • Tuesday, January 27
  • 5:30 PM

RSVP HERE

Space is limited, and RSVP is required to attend. Once you sign up, you’ll receive the exact location and additional details by email.

If you think you—or someone you love—might qualify, I strongly encourage you to attend. This compensation exists because of years of advocacy by New Mexicans who refused to be forgotten. Now it’s time to make sure it reaches the people who deserve this apology and payment.

I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,
