Today marks the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. In 1973, the Supreme Court made a landmark decision that recognized a simple truth: women have the right to make their own reproductive health care decisions.

For nearly 50 years, Roe protected the right to privacy, autonomy, and basic dignity. But because of Republicans' decades-long campaign to control women's bodies, that right was stripped away.

In 2022, the Dobbs v. Jackson decision overturned Roe, ripping away federal protections and throwing reproductive health care into chaos. In the years since, we’ve seen exactly what happens when politicians interfere in medical decisions: extreme abortion bans, women being denied care in emergencies, doctors threatened with prosecution, and families being forced to cross state lines for basic health care.

This is not progress. It's a step backward — and it's happening in the 21st century. But I want you to know that I am fighting back like hell in every way I can. In Congress, I've worked to protect access to abortion care, defend providers, and push for legislation that restores the rights Roe once guaranteed. I refuse to accept a country where your ZIP code determines your health care — or where politicians get to decide what happens in your doctor's office.

But this fight is far from over.

Republicans are continuing to push extreme, nationwide abortion bans. The only way to stop them and to restore our reproductive freedoms is to elect leaders who trust women and are willing to act.
