Friends,
2020 has been a crazy year, but for me it is also filled with some very special moments. This year, Nika and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary and starting our 30th year of dating. Woohoo! 
To celebrate I get to drive her to things like mask drop-offs, protests and filming an ad for Sen. Ed Markey. Nika’s days are filled with things like talking to first time progressive candidates, talking to advocates and peers as she writes bills and amendments, and navigating work related to COVID-19 issues. George Floyd's murder impacts all of this even more. People are open to change and pursuing progressive justice-oriented action. This has created more work, especially for legislators of color.
I get to be a fly on the wall for most of this. It truly has been eye-opening to see how difficult being a Rep. is. I am amazed and proud of Nika as I see her navigating all of this with excitement and hopefulness. I hear her behind the scenes negotiating and encouraging others to step up their game, researching and understanding various bills, and teaching and persuading her peers. At the end of the day, she is tired. Even as I write, she just finished a typical day, ending at 11pm after starting before 8am and working nonstop except for a short dinner break. Nika is pouring everything into this job because she is passionate about what her district and her state can become. She is working for justice for all!
