Missouri lawmakers and officials are going to extreme lengths to silence their own constituents:

* In September, the state legislature passed an egregiously gerrymandered map as part of the wave of mid-decade map redraws pushed by anti-democracy extremists.
* When Missouri voters fought back, collecting 300,000 signatures to put the gerrymandered map to a vote in a referendum, officials rejected a full one-third of them.
* And now, the attorney for Missouri’s top election official admitted that the pro-democracy, anti-gerrymandering referendum language was written to “prejudice” voters against it.

But anti-democracy forces are not going to back down in Missouri, or anywhere else they think they can silence voters.

Despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of Missouri voters signed a petition to stop the gerrymandered map, Secretary of State Denny Hoskins declared that the map will still go into effect for the 2026 midterms.

Make no mistake: These roadblocks in Missouri are not flukes. They are part of a coordinated effort to deprive voters of the power of direct democracy.
