John, today marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision, a ruling that once recognized reproductive freedom as a fundamental right.

But instead of celebrating progress, we’re being reminded how quickly it can be taken away.

Despite decades of precedent, a conservative Supreme Court, reshaped by Donald Trump, overturned Roe, stripping millions of women of the right to make their own health care decisions. Since then, 13 states have enacted total abortion bans, putting lives at risk and forcing families into impossible situations.

In 2023, the North Carolina General Assembly passed a 12 week abortion ban. Even with this legislation, North Carolina remains one of the least restrictive states in the South for reproductive rights.
