Behind most gun deaths is a system that’s designed to be deadly
Friend,
Alex Umble of Lancaster was 24 years old and deep in a mental health crisis when he logged onto a local gun dealer’s online store and bought a firearm.
The next day, he picked up the gun and a box of ammunition.
A short time later, Alex died by firearm suicide.
Alex’s family members knew that his long-term battle with depression had ups and downs. If he hadn’t been able to easily access a gun while in crisis, he might have survived.
Gun violence isn’t random or inevitable. It’s driven by easy access to guns.
Watch the story from Alex’s mom Maura and sister Bridget (it’s only 3 minutes long), then share their story of loss under a system that’s Deadly by Design . [[link removed]]

Maura and Bridget want Pennsylvania lawmakers to pass Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) into law, so the most deadly means of suicide can be temporarily removed for people in crisis. Twenty-two states have already passed ERPOs; Pennsylvania should be next.
We can’t bring Alex back, but together, we can save the next life.
For the last few years, Pennsylvanians have been sharing their powerful stories about how easy access to guns has impacted their lives.
