Spooked by wobbling global markets, a US electorate firmly opposed to his wild adventurism, and universal backlash from basically every meaningful ally on the planet, America's imperial narcissist is backing down from his ridiculous threats to seize Greenland "one way or another" and laughably declaring victory. "Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region," Trump posted on his social media platform.

Ah, yes. The "framework of a future deal!" Sounds a little like Donald's infamous "concept of a plan" on healthcare back in 2024, eh? How'd that one turn out again? Trump's "deal" is not actually new, of course. And while he claimed NATO will help the United States build some sort of missile defense shield on the island, it isn't clear what this "new" agreement would offer the United States that it cannot already do under a 1951 treaty with Denmark. Anyone else get the feeling Donald's family just wraps up things he already owns and "gifts" them back to him on his birthday?

Immigrant’s death in ICE custody ruled homicide by El Paso medical examiner
The death of a 55-year-old Cuban detainee who died on Jan. 3 at a federal immigration detention camp in El Paso, Texas, was ruled a homicide Wednesday by the El Paso Medical Examiner’s office. Geraldo Lunas Campos, who had been detained at Camp East Montana, died from "asphyxia due to neck and torso compression," according to the autopsy report, meaning that he couldn’t breathe because of pressure on his neck and chest. ICE claimed in a Jan. 9 press release that Lunas Campos died after "experiencing medical distress." About a week later, ICE changed their tune and said he actually died after attempting suicide and ICE staff attempted to save him. Uh huh. Lunas Campos is the third detainee to die at Camp East Montana, a tent facility hastily built last summer at the US Army's Fort Bliss, which has now become the largest immigration detention center in the country.
