Sovereign states depend a lot on the propagandistic idea that you can join but you are never allowed to leave. This is why the USA was sold to the people as a voluntary union but quickly became based on the idea that “if you try to leave we’ll kill you.” That latter statement is the foundational premise of state monopoly and dominion ([link removed]) .
