Because This Is America! Weekly News, Updates, and Events We As Democrats Believe:
"Getting out to protest, this is something real and, I would say, something patriotic. Part of the new authoritarianism is to get people to prefer fiction and inaction to reality and action."

Board of Elections Reports 3,666 Voters Applied for Absentee Ballot
Thanks to hard-working Democratic volunteers, New Hanover voters are signing up for Absentee By Mail ballots at 175% of the state average. Early applications for by mail ballots are good because these voters will be able to cast their ballots in early September, and they will be counted starting on September 29th, five weeks before Election Day, and well before Early Voting starts. Even better, Democratic and Unaffiliated ballot requests are swamping Republican application requests, bigly. Shhh, please don't tell your Republican Friends. Click here to see the lead that Democratic volunteers have managed to open up. That lead will probably shrink due to a Republican mailer sending ballot applications to Republicans across the state (see below). But we are not standing still either. We are still phoning 18,000 New Hanover Democrats and texting 20,000 to urge them to vote by mail.
We still need help to maintain our lead in vote by mail ballots. We are using a peer to peer texting tool called TextOut. It's inexpensive, but not free, and we need your help to pay for it. Please donate here to help us maintain our lead.
Republicans Believe Voting By Mail Works And Have Sent A Statewide Mailer
After President Trump's many baseless claims about fraud in by-mail voting it may surprise you to learn that the North Carolina Republican Party is encouraging its voters to apply for Absentee Ballots by Mail. But they have, and apparently are not ashamed. Dishonesty about fraud? Check. Hypocrisy? Check. Shamelessness? Check. For details about the mailing click here. The difference that we are making is personal contacts by phone and by text to democratic voters. You can help us maintain that connection by donating to our texting campaign.
Trump to Visit North Carolina as COVID-19 Case Count Tops 100,000 in State
On Monday, President Donald Trump is to visit a Wake County facility associated with the effort to develop a vaccine for the rampaging coronavirus that has infected more than 100,000 North Carolinians so far. As hospitalizations in the state hover near record highs, Trump will pose for photos in Morrisville on Monday.
According to 11 Eyewitness News, Trump will visit the FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies' Innovation Center in Morrisville. During the visit, Trump will tour facilities used to support the manufacturing of "key components of the COVID-19 vaccine candidate" developed by Novavax. Do you think he will wear a mask to keep North Carolinans safe?
GOP Senators TIllis and Burr Continue to Fail North Carolina
(From NCDP) In a new piece publishedlast week, the Capitol Broadcasting Company’s Editorial board slammed Republican Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis for trying to curry favor with President Trump instead of addressing the immediate needs of their constituents as millions of Americans remain out of work.
“In recent weeks the two seem to make it a bigger priority to back up President Donald Trump than attending to the needs of North Carolinians,” the editorial board wrote. “No one should believe, for a minute, that there is ANY connection between the selfish self-interested priorities of Trump and the most urgent needs, concerns or benefits of North Carolina’s citizens." The authors called for an increase in federal funding to boost capacity for testing and contact tracing — funding the Trump administration is currently blocking.
David Dowdy Seeks Reelection as County Soil and Water Supervisor
Wilmington native David Dowdy says his priority as Soil & Water Conservation District supervisor is to preserve the county's natural resources in the face of development pressure. "I would like to draw attention to the importance of low impact development," David said. "Before significant development of the county takes place, it is important that we plan ahead from lessons learned in the development of green space in the city."
The conservation district, a division of the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Consumer Services, works to bring environmental education to any interested class, group or organization, to assist public and private land owners with storm-water management, and to aid the community in open lands preservation and conservation.
