Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Van Drew voiced his support for President Trump's plan aimed at preventing families from paying higher electricity bills due to the rapidly growing energy demands of large Artificial Intelligence data centers. The proposal urges grid operators to explore an emergency power auction that would make major technology companies and large data centers directly help fund new electricity generation needed to meet their high demand.
"Electric bills are already too high for a lot of families in New Jersey," said Congressman Van Drew. "As new technology like AI puts more demand on our power grid, we have to be careful about who ends up paying for it. President Trump is exactly right: ratepayers should not see their bills go up because of new energy needs they did not create. Things are already bad enough. We have to find ways to alleviate the pressure. Any approach to supporting new technology must protect everyday ratepayers from taking on these additional costs."
