In this month's episode of "SMI Spotlight," host Dr. Xavier Amador talks with Dr. Aaron Brinen about Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R) and its potential to help people living with schizophrenia and psychosis, especially those with negative symptoms like decreased motivation, and/or those with anosognosia (lack of insight).

CT-R is a therapy modality, co-developed by Dr. Brinen, which takes the focus off getting the person living with SMI to "accept" their diagnosis, and instead turns the focus on what interests or engages the person in the world around them. By partnering with the person to identify and eliminate the obstacles getting in their way of their desired life, CT-R can be an effective tool to help people living with SMI lead full lives of purpose and meaning.

While Dr. Amador is not able to comment on individual cases, TAC's Helpline provides support for families and caregivers navigating the complex SMI system. This is not a crisis service. For mental health emergencies, call 988 to access the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Call 911 if there is a risk of violence or physical harm.

We hope you will enjoy SMI Spotlight, and we would be appreciative if you rate, review, and share the podcast. From all of us at TAC, thank you for your support and for joining us in shining a light on SMI!
