Today would have marked the 53rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that protected the right to an abortion before being overturned in 2022.
Since the fall of Roe, we have seen more and more aggressive attacks on abortion access pop up in red states nationwide. This includes just last week in South Carolina, where male Republican lawmakers introduced a bill to criminalize abortion as murder, which is punishable by death. If passed, this legislation would apply to “all parties involved,” including the pregnant person.
That is exactly why we have made it our mission to ensure that Virginia remains a safe haven for abortion access for people across the South, regardless of who’s elected – and we are in the final stretch to make that happen.
Last week, the Virginia legislature PASSED our amendment to enshrine reproductive rights in the state constitution, and now it will be on the ballot in November, where voters will have final say.
